#1 What will change at work in 2022
From βPredictions for 2022: Everything is about to changeβ by Josh Bersin published on December 15, 2021.
Josh Bersin, a worldwide HR Tech guru, predicts 4 big trends to be watched in 2022.
We will live in a tighter labor market with upward pressure on wages. If you do not want to spend too much of your time recruiting, you should spend more time upskilling talents inside your organization. Redeploying people inside your company is key. Recruit based on skills and fit rather than on experience only. Training people as they arrive will be key for success as most people you will recruit do not have the skills or experience you are looking for.
HR Tech becomes more powerful than ever. Discovering talents, on-the-job training, survey to check the sentiment of your employees, an endless number of tools for wellbeing are available. HR cannot exist without tech. If you think the contrary, you will probably stay stuck in 2021.
There will be a change in culture. Inflation, insecurity, people are looking for a company and an employer they can trust. People also want to work for a company that cares for climate change, environmental issues, and sustainability. Wellness in the workplace, mental health, and coaching become crucial as a Mercer study showed that 40% of workers are using mental health or coaching benefits. Employment brand also becomes the number 1 predictor of hiring great people.
The HR role becomes even more central as it will be deeply involved in leading a framework for remote work, hybrid work, back to work, safe work.
#2 What will AI change in 2022
From β10 AI Predictions for 2022β from Forbes Magazine published on December 22, 2021.
I picked the top 3 predictions that seemed more relevant or interesting from this piece. Here we go:
Natural language processing (aka NLP) should attract record investments in 2022 as the tech becomes mature and is about to be generalized in many flavors. 2 NLP startups Hugging Face (last valued at $440M) and Cohere (last valued at $200M) are both on their way to become unicorns in 2022.
In AI, infrastructure also precedes applications. 3 companies should go public in 2022 as they provide tools and infrastructure to help other companies build AI. Check out Databricks, DataRobot, and Scale AI.
Climate tech is warming up. 3 companies building tech at the intersection of AI and climate should also get their unicorn status: watch out for these guysΒ Cervest, ClimateAi, Gro Intelligence, Kettle, KoBold Metals, NCX, Pachama, Patch, Persefoni, Watershed.
And also AI tools for video should get more visible in 2022. 80% of the internet traffic will be video but there are still very few deep learning-based products and capabilities specifically to capture context for video vs image and text.
Get ready to hear more about synthetic data in 2022. Getting the right data is yet the most challenging part of building AI products today. Synthetic data offers compelling advantages over the status-quo approach of collecting and labeling real-world datasets. When you have too many data and data sources, the key is to clean and synthesize data properly.
π¨π¦ Toronto will become the third biggest hub for AI outside of Silicon Valley and China. More and more startups are getting based out of this new hub:Β AdaΒ (chatbot platform),Β Cohere (NLP),Β Deep GenomicsΒ (AI for drug discovery), andΒ Waabi (autonomous vehicles).
#3 How digital marketing will change in 2022
From βTop digital marketing trends and predictions for 2022β from Google experts published in December 2021.
2022 will come with an expectation from brands to increase the privacy protection of their customers while being able to improve the personalized ways to reach their audience. Building trust while collecting personal information becomes even more crucial.
CMOs will need to implement and own a single measurement method to prove the ROI of their end-to-end approach. McKinsey showed that 45% of CFOs have declined or not fully funded a marketing proposal because it did not show a clear uplift in value.
Shoppable content and ads will drive even better sales increases. With global e-commerce sales growing more than +30% last year, it becomes natural for people to shop from online video channels like Youtube or from Instagram stories. Being intentional with a clear call to action will help improve the results of online campaigns.
As sustainability rises further, brands have to show sustainability benefits for consumers using their products. Brands become aware that sustainability become part of the norm.
#4 What will change in Tech in 2022
From β5 trends to shake the world in 2022: Predictions for the year aheadβ from CNET published on December 26, 2021.
Health will be different from 2022 onwards. Telehealth will now prevail and it becomes the norm to have a vaccine ready in 10 months rather than a decade it took before Covid 19.
Hybrid work and the βGreat resignationβ will be here to stay. More people will quit their jobs to reprioritize their lives. More than ever.
Inflation for homes and cars will be under close attention in 2022. Bitcoins and crypto may become even more real for us. « The crypto exchange app Coinbase passed TikTok and YouTube to become the most downloaded app in Apple's App Store a couple of times during 2021.Β Β» As some athletes are starting to receive crypto money as a component of their compensation, letβs see if employers will offer a crypto option to their employees in 2022.
More space travel and even more electric vehicles will invade the travel and transportation sectors. Tesla Model Y is predicted to because the best selling car in 2022 after 2021 saw the Model3 becoming the best seller in Europe last September.
What about the rise of the metaverse for gaming? Some see this as not yet mainstream in 2022 but it will definitely grow stronger. Get Ready (Player One)!
#5 What will change in Tech in 2022 (expert level)
From β10 tech predictions for 2022β from and for IT and tech leaders from Enterprise Projects published on December 8, 2021.
Introductory note: The labor tension will not be up in 2022; this means that the best way to build a rockstar team is to retain your talents. Be intentional about creating a fun workplace where your team loves spending time.
My top 5 selection among these top 10 predictions for tech addicts:
For cloud infrastructure, 2022 will be the year of hybrid cloud adoption to find the right balance between agility, speed, security, and privacy.
More choices for multi-cloud deployments. As software vendors and data-driven businesses want to avoid being locked into a single cloud vendor due to regulations like GDPR and organizations wanting localized data.
More critical applications especially in AI/ML will move to Kubernetes, running in containers. "From improving customer interactions to making better decisions with data, to things like modeling autonomous vehicles, AI/ML is impacting nearly every aspect of modern business. And Kubernetes brings the perfect platform capabilities to AI/ML - scalability, access to GPUs, workload portability and much more."
There will a need to expand the use of analytics to lead digital transformation further and measure improvements. Time has come to "identify the most viable business cases for applying the power of data and analytics. If your organization aims to drive large-scale digital transformation, as opposed to piecemeal initiatives based on a single use case, it is necessary to take an integrated approach to employ data and analytics to maximize value."
Decentralized databases and edge computing will get more promoters. This should be a valid option to improve response times and decrease bandwidth.
