Digital fragrance as NFT, a $40 billion Dogecoin market cap, unprecedented stock market speculations, Excel Dresses, Alien Eggs Fetishes... With the pandemy, Weirdness seems to be on crack argue Marie DollΓ© & Patrick Kervern in this co-written analytical piece.
But historically weirdness typically follow intense and dramatic periods. "Poulaines" those weird medieval pointy shoes were invented after Black Plague Wiped out 30 to 60 percent of the European population. Weird is also a great sign of business opportunity. As hedge fund investor, Adam Robison advises : "Things that don't make sense are your best learning opportunities."
Some people like serial weirdo-entrepreneurs likeΒ Danielle Baskin, who foundedΒ Maskalike Are masters of Weirdness. Two key products she has imagined. Branded fruits and a "Derecruiter" service. The post-pandemic word is going to be weird, unexpected and full of opportunities...

#4 European recovery with Julien Triverio
Which euro-zone economies are bouncing back quickest?
published on May 29th 2021 on The Economist (paid article but free takeaways thanks to Julien)
Lockdown restriction are easing, vaccination program is charging ahead, Germany companies are most optimistic in 2y ... however Europe recovery won't be widespread (North vs South countries) Italy/Spain underperformed vs Germany/France: household consumption hit harder in the South, longer lockdown + drought in tourist revenue.
...But, Italy/Spain are bouncing back faster, thanks to : - Looser travel restrictions (12% of Spain GDP from tourism) while Germany struggles with bottlenecks issue. - Excess savings higher in harder hit countries, so likely to spend much. - EU fiscal response (EU recovery fund): direct more cash to Italy/Spain -> will boost growth.... but might not be enough for Southern countries to catch up with Northern. Would need an other round of stimulus to tackle inequalities.

published on May 28th 2021 in Courrier Cadres
